Investigation Underway Following Shooting Incident at Adventist Senior High School

The Ashanti Regional Police are investigating a shooting at the Adventist Senior High School involving a 16-year-old student who brought a loaded pistol to school. The firearm accidentally discharged during an exchange with classmates, injuring another student, who is now in stable condition. On April 5, 2023, the Ashanti Regional Police Command commenced an investigation into a shooting incident at the Adventist Senior High School, which occurred on April 4, around noon. Preliminary findings indicate that a 16-year-old second-year student, whose name remains undisclosed, brought a locally manufactured pistol loaded with BB ammunition to the school.

The student reportedly attempted to display the firearm to a classmate, and during this interaction, it accidentally discharged, resulting in another student being injured. A press release from Deputy Superintendent of Police Mr. Godwin Atsu Ahianyo, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, stated that the names of individuals involved are being withheld for privacy.

The injured student has since received treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. The suspect has been arrested, and authorities confirmed the recovery of an empty cartridge, which will be retained as evidence in the investigation. The juvenile stated that he had taken the gun from his father’s bedroom without consent, prompting officials to seek the father’s whereabouts for questioning.
