Authorities recently detained a Nigerian woman and her associate for allegedly trafficking young girls, including her own daughter, to Mauritania for commercial sex work in exchange for N50,000. The arrest was made by operatives of the Zone 2 Command of the Nigeria Police Force on March 22 in the Meiran area of Lagos State.

Investigations reveal that the trafficking syndicate worked in conjunction with accomplices in Mauritania to entice victims under false pretenses. The suspects confessed to their involvement during their interrogation, confirming the criminal enterprise.

The Zonal Public Relations Officer, Umma Ayuba, reported that the first suspect stated that she was introduced to a Mauritian woman by another individual already imprisoned for similar offenses. The suspect admitted receiving N50,000 for each girl, including her 19-year-old daughter, whom she recruited and trafficked.

Ayuba further explained that the first suspect confessed to earning over N500,000 through her activities, as she was contracted to recruit girls under 22 for exploitation as sex workers in Mauritania. The second suspect recounted her experience, stating that she initially thought she was hiring domestic staff; however, she became alert when her recruited victim was rejected by the first suspect due to concerns regarding age and size.

The investigation is ongoing, and Ayuba indicated that the suspects will face legal charges upon its conclusion, emphasizing the gravity of their actions and the need for justice for the victims involved.
