Kenyan TikToker Rish Kamunge Facing Charges for Fraudulent Job Scheme

Rish Kamunge, a Kenyan TikToker, has been arrested for running a fake job scheme targeting those seeking employment in Mauritius. She has been released on a Ksh5 million bond. Victims reported paying substantial fees for non-existent job placements, with some being stranded in Mauritius and subsequently deported. Public outrage has led to protests and demands for refunds from the fraudulent agency.

Kenyan TikToker Wangare Kamunge, popularly known as Rish Kamunge, is facing legal repercussions following her arraignment for reportedly operating a fraudulent job scheme aimed at Kenyans seeking employment opportunities in Mauritius. The court granted her release on a Ksh5 million personal bond after rejecting the prosecution’s request for a seven-day detention.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) disclosed that Rish, who serves as the director of Trustpine Travel Agency, allegedly collected payments between Sh200,000 and Sh400,000 from victims aspiring to secure non-existent jobs. The DCI noted, “Victims reported paying between Sh200,000 and Sh400,000 for job placement, only to discover that the promised opportunities were nonexistent.”

Detectives have revealed that several victims, after being deceived, traveled to Mauritius only to find themselves stranded at the airport. Many have reported being deported back to Kenya due to a lack of assistance. Rish allegedly acknowledged receiving Ksh12.9 million from 43 victims as part of the scam. She was initially remanded at Capital Hill Police Station before her court appearance.

Following the revelations, numerous Kenyans stormed her job agency’s offices in Nairobi to demand refunds for the substantial amounts they paid for job placements. These protests highlight the discontent of those who travelled 3,100 kilometers to Mauritius in search of jobs that did not exist. Victims indicated they had found the agency through online advertisements. One victim recounted, “I first paid Ksh80,000 as a down payment, and then I added Ksh145,000 for flight tickets.”

In summary, Rish Kamunge faces serious allegations for orchestrating a fake job scheme leading to considerable financial losses for numerous victims. With claims amounting to Ksh12.9 million taken from 43 individuals, her actions have resulted in significant distress for those who believed in her agency. The situation has triggered public protests demanding refunds, indicating widespread outrage against fraudulent activities in employment placement.
