Nigeria Police Neutralize Suspected Vandals in Pipeline Bombing Attempt

The Nigeria Police Command in Rivers State has confirmed the killing of suspected vandals during an attempted pipeline bombing. Commissioner Olugbenga Adepoju noted the operation’s success, and subsequent arrests were made during a follow-up operation. The police successfully dismantled explosives and components related to IEDs in an ongoing effort to enhance security.

On Tuesday, the Nigeria Police Command in Rivers State confirmed the death of several suspected vandals during an attempt to destroy a pipeline in the Rumuekpe Aluu community. Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju stated that the suspects died at the scene while engaging in their criminal activities. This operation is part of a coordinated effort with various security agencies aimed at protecting the region.

Commissioner Adepoju emphasized that the prompt action by security forces led to the failure of the attempted pipeline bombing. “The joint security forces successfully thwarted an attempt by miscreants to vandalise a pipeline, leading to the death of the vandals who sought to detonate it,” he explained. This incident occurred in Allu-Rumuekpe, Ikwerre Local Government Area (LGA) on March 16.

Following this successful operation, security forces continued their efforts in Onelga LGA on March 19, where they prevented another potential bombing. During this operation, two suspects were apprehended while allegedly in possession of four sticks of dynamite. Additionally, police dismantled several pods and components used for Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

The collective efforts of the police and security agencies in Rivers State have effectively thwarted several attempts to vandalize critical infrastructure. The response to these incidents demonstrates a commitment to maintaining public safety.
