Russia has called for dialogue to end the escalating violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo, warning of a potential inter-state conflict. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stressed the need for immediate peace talks to address the situation. The M23 rebel group has recently seized control of significant territories, further complicating the security landscape.

On Friday, Russia asserted that dialogue is the only effective solution to halt the ongoing violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The nation cautioned against the escalation of conflicts that may lead to a broader inter-state war.

Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Foreign Ministry, emphasized the urgent necessity for peace talks among the involved factions. She stated, “We are convinced that an end to the violence in eastern DRC can only be achieved through dialogue between all interested and engaged parties.” Furthermore, she urged for a prompt cessation of hostilities and the withdrawal of armed groups from occupied areas.

The Democratic Republic of Congo has been in turmoil as various armed groups vie for dominance in its resource-rich eastern region. Recently, the M23 rebel group, reportedly supported by Rwanda, has escalated its advances, seizing control over significant parts of the city of Goma. The M23, composed predominantly of ethnic Tutsis, has a history of conflict with the Congolese government, dating back to its first insurgency in 2012 and its resurgence in 2022.
