The Department of Blue Economy has recently conducted two workshops focused on Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) and Maritime Boundary Delimitation. Fourteen participants completed the Maritime Boundary Delimitation workshop, while twenty-four concluded the BBNJ training, designed to enhance Seychelles’ marine governance capabilities. Director General Chrissant Barbe highlighted that ongoing negotiations regarding the remaining unmarked area near Madagascar are crucial, where participants’ expertise from these workshops will contribute to resolving complex diplomatic discussions.

Furthermore, Seychelles has ratified the BBNJ Agreement, a pivotal treaty for ocean conservation that emphasizes sustainable practices in areas not governed by any country.
