Amit Shah Challenges Congress Over Allegations of Anti-National Sentiments and Agricultural Policies

Amit Shah accused Congress of allowing “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans at political events in Haryana, criticized the party’s pledge to restore Article 370, emphasized the BJP’s support for farmers through crop procurements, and announced plans for a Waqf amendment bill. The statements were made during a rally as Haryana prepares for elections on October 5, 2023.

On Sunday, Amit Shah, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, levied a significant criticism against the Indian National Congress and its leader, Rahul Gandhi, during an electoral rally in Badshahpur, Haryana. He alleged that “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans were being chanted at various Congress events within the state, suggesting that the party’s leadership is complicit in appeasing policies. Shah questioned, “I want to ask Rahul Gandhi that when the leaders and workers of your party are raising the slogans of ‘Pakistan Zindabad’, why are you quiet?” Additionally, Shah denounced the Congress’s commitment to restoring Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the sacrifices made by the youth of Haryana to safeguard Kashmir would not be forgotten. He proclaimed, “Even the three generations of Rahul Gandhi cannot bring Article 370 back.” Shah further asserted that the BJP-led government is effectively supporting farmers through the procurement of 24 crops at minimum support prices (MSP). He challenged Congress leaders to identify any Congress-ruled state that procures as many crops at MSP as the BJP government does in Haryana. Shah concluded his address by promising the introduction of the Waqf amendment bill during the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament, asserting that the current Waqf Board law is problematic and requires amendments for improvement. The Haryana Assembly elections are scheduled for October 5, with results expected by October 8.

The political climate in India has been characterized by ongoing tensions between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress party, particularly surrounding issues related to national security and regional autonomy. The reference to slogans during Congress events highlights concerns over certain political expressions perceived as unpatriotic by opposition parties. Amit Shah’s comments reflect an ongoing campaign strategy aimed at consolidating support in the run-up to state elections, where issues such as Kashmir and agricultural reform are focal points of public interest and debate.

Amit Shah’s remarks at the Badshahpur rally underscore the BJP’s strategy of framing Congress as sympathetic to anti-national sentiments and ineffective on key policy issues like Kashmir. His focus on agricultural support and the impending legislative changes reveals the BJP’s intent to appeal to rural voters while questioning the credibility of the opposition.
